Bodrum Municipality is harvesting the lavenders grown at the Garaova Agricultural Park.
As part of the work carried out by the Bodrum Municipality Agricultural Services Directorate, the annual lavender harvest, which takes place every July, this year included the participation of students from the Youth Agriculture Camp.
Lavender, a plant widely used in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries, is cultivated as an Agricultural R&D product on the municipality-owned Etrim Garaova Agricultural Park land. When the lavender is ready for harvest, it is cut using machinery by the Agricultural Services Directorate staff. The guest students, as part of their Field Applications course, participated in the early morning collection and transportation of the harvested lavender to foster a sense of unity, cooperation, and solidarity through hands-on learning.
In the Distillation Unit of the İsmail Hakkı Tonguç Agricultural School, the lavender is processed to extract essential oils, producing lavender oil and lavender hydrosol by the evening of the same day.
Among the products produced are bottled lavender oil, hydrosol, and value-added products such as lavender cologne and lavender soap, created by the Agricultural R&D teams. These products are distributed to guests and citizens at various events and organizations.
