Tea producers in Rize have begun entering the tea gardens for the third flush harvest season, focusing particularly on the coastal areas. As of August 15, ÇAYKUR officially started buying the third flush. Citizens who have begun harvesting the matured tea are cutting their tea and selling it.
Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı's announcement of a quota of 750 kilograms during his visit to Rize also pleased the citizens for the new flush. ÇAYKUR purchased 213,000 tons of tea during the first flush period of 2024 and 279,950 tons during the second flush period. This year, ÇAYKUR has bought more tea in the first two flushes compared to the same periods in 2022 and 2023.
Mahmut Kurtuluş, expressing happiness about the quota increase to 750 kilograms and the good condition of the tea in the third flush period, said, “The tea is very good. Thank God for that. We are grateful to our government for increasing the quota to 750 kilograms. Hopefully, we won’t be dependent on the private sector.”
