In Edirne's Keşan district, where sunflower harvesting has begun, Keşan Agricultural Chamber President Hasan Şen and Keşan Agricultural Chamber Board Member and sunflower producer Salih Gülfidan visited farmers in the Boztepe Village area where the harvest is taking place.
In his statements, Şen highlighted that the yield in dry fields has fallen to as low as 60 to 70 kilograms, which is not encouraging. He mentioned that Trakya Birlik has set the price for sunflowers with a 44% oil content at 20,000 TL per ton. According to Şen, this price aligns with current market conditions. Prices at Edirne and Uzunköprü Commodity Exchanges are consistent with this level. He emphasized that yield is the most important factor for the profitability of producers and expressed hope that the government will reconsider support measures to ensure the continuity of production due to the low yields caused by the drought.
Salih Gülfidan pointed out the evident damage caused by the drought, noting that the average yield in dry fields has dropped to 60 kilograms. He commented that while government measures indicate that market prices should be favorable, the lack of yield is a significant issue. Despite this, he expressed hope for a blessed harvest season and wished all farmers a successful harvest.
