A Story That Began 20 Years Ago

Known as "Sumakçı Dede," Hazım Ak grafted non-fruiting male sumac trees 20 years ago. Although villagers mocked his father's initiative, the grafts were successful, and the sumac trees began to bear fruit. Today, his son Naci Ak and his wife İmame Ak continue Hazım Ak's legacy. Hazım Ak passed away in 2023, but his sumacs are highly sought after in the district and across Turkey.

Contribution to the Local Economy and High Demand

With the introduction of sumac into production, job opportunities have arisen for women in the village. These special sumacs, currently selling for 500 TL per kilogram, are in demand all over Turkey. The sumacs grafted by Hazım Ak have become a significant economic asset in Adana and its surroundings.

Scientifically Verified

Academics from Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University and Çukurova University have included this initiative in their academic studies, certifying it as a first in Turkey and worldwide. They also emphasized the health benefits of sumac and its long shelf life.
