The members of the Alaçatı Food Community, formed by residents of Çeşme and Alaçatı last year, gathered in the lavender field created in Alaçatı by the Municipality of Çeşme.
The Alaçatı Food Community, which came together with the aim of accessing good food directly and preferably through local producers in Izmir, and bringing together producers and consumers by ordering products from afar to reduce carbon footprint, quickly reached 219 participants. With the arrival of spring, the preparations in the vineyards, gardens, and agricultural areas in Çeşme intensified. After completing winter agricultural activities, the members of the Alaçatı Food Community gathered in the lavender field owned by the Municipality of Çeşme to inform about lavender, one of the region's most valuable aromatic plants. Dr. Mahmut Tolon, a member of the Alaçatı Food Community, provided information to the community members about lavender cultivation and the extraction of lavender oil.
The Alaçatı Food Community provided support by purchasing lavender seedlings from a female producer in Menderes district, and they also bought lavender seedlings for themselves to grow in their own gardens.
