Walnut harvest has begun in the Kozan district of Adana.
In the Karanebili neighborhood of the district, walnut harvesting has started at an altitude of 850 meters using traditional methods. After the walnuts are harvested, they are carefully separated from their green husks and left to dry. The walnuts, which are dried in the shade, are prepared for sale.
Walnut grower Gökhan Özkan said, "The land is inherited from our ancestors. We try to use our hilly land for wheat and certain fruit trees. We have come to harvest the walnuts we planted. We start harvesting early in the morning. We use a walnut de-shelling machine for winter storage and sale; we pour a sack of walnuts into the machine, wait for 20 minutes, and then transfer them for drying. Within a week, they are dried and ready for both winter storage and sale."
It was observed that the yield has decreased compared to last year due to adverse weather conditions.
