Almond harvest has started in Selendi

In Manisa's Selendi district, the almond harvest has begun. Almond production, which started as an alternative to tobacco in 2009 and has rapidly expanded in recent years, is now in full swing. Farmers are busy harvesting almonds, which are then separated from their shells and dried in the sun. With 300,000 trees spread over 10,000 decares, the almond production benefits 650 producers and contributes significantly to the local economy. Farmers are optimistic about this year's harvest, noting that the almond trees are highly productive. The varieties grown include Nonperial, Texas, Ferragnes, and Ferraduel. Thanks to the support from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Manisa Metropolitan Municipality in recent years, almond cultivation has been growing rapidly, benefiting the district's economy. Producer Kemal Akçan commented, "This year, the almond yield is very good. We hope the price will be good too. Our family's economy depends on this. We take care of this crop for a year."

District Governor Mustafa İlker Kara, who participated in the harvest, stated, "Despite the dry weather this year, it seems that the almond crop, which spans approximately 10,000 decares in our district as part of alternative crops, will be good in terms of yield. I wish a prosperous and bountiful harvest season for our producers."
