Cherry harvesting continues in Selendi

The decrease in cherry prices from 120 TL per kilogram last year to 50 TL has drawn attention.

In Selendi, Manisa, some farmers have turned to cherry production as an alternative to tobacco cultivation. Cherries, which have been contributing significantly to the local economy for the past 25 years as an alternative crop to tobacco, have become the primary source of income for many farmers. While cherries are exported to European and African countries, the decrease in price from 120 TL per kilogram last year to as low as 50 TL this year has been notable.

District Governor Mustafa İlker Kara visited the cherry production center in Pınarlar Neighborhood and met with farmers. Joining in the cherry harvest in the orchards, Governor Kara wished the farmers a prosperous harvest season.

During his conversations with farmers, Governor Kara highlighted the economic significance of cherries, which have gained prominence in recent years as a high-value export fruit in the district's agricultural products.

District Agriculture Director Ahmet Ayhan and neighborhood head Ümit Ayhan accompanied Governor Kara during his visit, providing additional insights.
