Edremit Bay green scratched olives received European registration

After the world-famous olive oil of Balıkesir's Edremit district received a geographical indication from the European Union, the application for the "Edremit Bay green scratched olive" was accepted by the European Union Agriculture Commission.

The Edremit Chamber of Commerce announced that after the completion of a 3-month hanging process, the green-striped olives of Edremit Bay have been officially registered by the European Union. Ahmet Çetin, the President of the Board of Directors of the Edremit Chamber of Commerce, stated in a press release that the application for registration, submitted by the chamber in 2018, has now been approved by the European Union Rural Agriculture Directorate as of today. Çetin expressed his satisfaction, saying, "The process initiated by the application to the European Union in 2018 by our Edremit Chamber of Commerce has finally come to an end in 2023. Our green-striped olives, which are the most exquisite type of olives in Edremit Bay and bear the geographical characteristics of this region, have been registered by the European Union as the second EU-registered product of Edremit. We are extremely happy and proud about this. I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who contributed to this. Thanks to the former council members, our president, and everyone involved in the process. The Edremit olive variety is a high-quality and enjoyable green-striped olive grown in the Edremit Bay, nourished by the oxygen of the Kaz Mountains and Madra Mountains, and enriched by the iodine of the Aegean Sea, along with the unique essence of the endemic plants of this region.

Çetin, stating that Edremit now has two products registered by the European Union, expressed, "As Edremit, we are extremely happy and proud to have Turkey's first pair of European Union-registered geographical indication products. This is a significant success for our Edremit Chamber of Commerce. I urge our consumers to use Edremit products with peace of mind, especially those with European Union-registered geographical indications, and to request them from supermarkets.
