In Akçakoca, the gateway of Düzce to the Black Sea, fishing boats are waiting for the sea water to cool down. Fishermen at the Akçakoca Fishermen's Harbor continue their wait, hoping that the cooling of the sea will bring fish to the surface and fill their nets.
Mustafa Karakaş, the President of the Akçakoca Fisheries Cooperative, stated, "Due to the recent very hot weather, there has been a slight decrease in fish. Herring fishing is still ongoing in the Black Sea, but due to a slight decrease in size, it has not reflected much on our counters. We experienced a plentiful herring season in November. Recently, due to the shrinkage of herring, we cannot fish in our region. Trawl fishing continues. Red mullet, horse mackerel, whiting, and turbot are available in our coastal fishing. It is not a bad fishing season. Due to the hot weather, there has been scattering and a decrease in fish. We are expecting the weather to cool down in the coming days. Additionally, as the fish gather together, there will be more fishing, and this will be reflected in the prices," he said.
"Nets are in the sea"
Karakaş, mentioning that boats took refuge in the harbor due to adverse weather conditions, stated, "Due to adverse weather conditions, boats couldn't go out. Actually, they went out in the morning, but due to the strong southwesterly wind offshore, as a precaution, boats returned to the harbor. Our nets are in the sea," he added.
