Sezgi pointed out that chickens also have a feature of reducing the harmful brown stink bug by consuming it.
Egg production in Ordu is expanding with projects and support implemented by the Metropolitan Municipality and the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry. With an annual production of over 40 million eggs throughout the province, more than 10,000 markets nationwide offer them for sale. It is aimed to further increase egg production in the province in the coming years.
"We expect Ordu eggs to become a brand in Turkey."
Celal Sezgi, President of the Ordu Egg Producers Association, stated that egg production has increased with newly implemented projects in the province. Emphasizing the annual production of over 40 million eggs in the province, Sezgi said, "With grant projects and new initiatives, production is continuing to increase. We have significant projects carried out jointly with our Ordu Metropolitan Municipality, and with the implementation of these projects, we anticipate that our product will truly become a brand on shelves across Turkey."
"Exportation has come to a halt due to the tensions in the Middle East, halving egg prices."
Sezgi mentioned a fifty percent decrease in egg prices, saying, "We are currently experiencing a situation that causes concern for producers, due to the closure of the Suez Canal and a 90 percent halt in exports because of the tensions in the Middle East. The complete redirection of export products to the domestic market has led to a 100 percent price reduction in eggs. Currently, eggs are the only food product whose price has dropped. This is pleasing for consumers, but as a producers' association, if egg prices continue to fall without improvement in expense items, it means that production will decrease day by day. The price of a pack of 30 eggs, which was around 140 TL before Ramadan, has now dropped to 65 TL, which is worrying for producers."
"Chickens are effective in combating the brown stink bug."
Sezgi stated that the brown stink bug, which causes serious damage to agricultural fields in America and European countries, was effective in the region last year and caused significant damage. He expressed that chickens play an effective role in combating this pest. Sezgi said, "What we have observed is that, alongside the chemical spraying carried out by our ministry, chickens also play an effective role in combating the stink bug. In the grazing areas of chickens, the population of stink bugs is very low because it is a protein source that chickens enjoy feeding on. In combating the stink bug, especially in villages, we recommend that our citizens who reside there raise chickens and increase the population, and also utilize stink bug-combating chickens.
