Olive harvest disappoints, prices Bring Joy

As the olive harvest comes to an end in the Salihli district of Manisa, this year's olive yield disappoints producers, while prices bring satisfaction. In the Salihli Plain, one of Turkey's important centers for table olives and olive oil production, the olive harvest is nearing completion. In Salihli, where olive production is carried out on a total of 110 thousand decares, with 72 thousand for table olives and 35 thousand for oil olives, the olive yield this year disappoints the producers, but the prices of olives and olive oil bring joy to the producers. At the beginning of the season, olives, which found buyers at 110 Turkish liras, are currently being sold between 90 and 70 Turkish liras, while olive oil is finding buyers between 250 and 300 Turkish liras depending on its quality.

Approximately 5 million olive trees from nearly 50 neighborhoods in Salihli produce olives, which are classified as table olives and oil olives based on their quality. Investors prefer the district due to the high quality of olive oil obtained from olives grown in the Salihli region.

On the other hand, despite the low yield, it is emphasized that oil yields are also low. While in previous years, 1 kilogram of oil was obtained from 4-5 kilograms, this year 1 kilogram of oil is obtained from 7-8 kilograms.
