The early cabbage harvest has begun in Niğde

In Niğde, which ranks second in white cabbage production in Turkey, early cabbage harvest has begun.

This year, cabbage is being planted on 18,740 decares of land in 25 villages in Niğde, with an expected yield of 132,155 tons. Last year, approximately 19,440 decares of land were planted, yielding 132,130 tons of cabbage. The planting area has decreased compared to the previous year. In 2024, cabbage is being grown on 18,740 decares of land, with a projected yield of 132,155 tons. Niğde, which accounts for about 19% of Turkey's white cabbage production, is especially known for cabbage cultivation in the Bor and Ulukışla districts and their villages. Locally, cabbage is in demand and is also exported to countries such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, and Azerbaijan.

White cabbage, a primary source of income for nearly 900 farmers in 25 villages, is considered one of the most suitable agricultural products for cultivation due to the soil conditions in Ulukışla and Bor districts. In Niğde, the early-harvested white cabbage is sold for 10 to 15 Turkish lira per head.
