Due to the recent storms in the seas, there is a rise in fish prices in Tekirdağ.
The storm affecting the Sea of Marmara and some regions of the Black Sea has led sailors to halt their activities, and this hiatus is also reflected in fish market prices. Due to the storm at sea, last week's hamsi (anchovy), which was sold at 50 Turkish liras per kilogram, saw an increase to 70 liras per kilogram yesterday, and today it has further risen to 100 liras per kilogram. Sardines, on the other hand, are currently being sold at 50 liras per kilogram.
Fishermen attribute the fluctuation in fish prices and availability to the storm, stating that on stormy days, fewer fish are caught, and the limited supply results in higher prices. They emphasize that the impact of these conditions on market prices varies.
Engin Şınık, who sells fish in the streets of Süleymanpaşa district, mentioned, "Unfortunately, when the weather turns a bit bad, our fishermen can't go out. When they can't go out, we get less fish. Currently, hamsi is being sold at prices ranging from 80 to 100 Turkish liras per kilogram. We hope that when the weather improves, the price of hamsi will go back down to 50 liras. The weather in the Marmara Region is mostly rainy and windy. Due to the storm, not many fish are coming in. Sardines are also being sold at 50 liras per kilogram."
