The Trabzon persimmon is bringing joy to farmers

The Trabzon persimmon harvest, initiated in Mersin, is delighting farmers with both its productivity and price. When well cared for, this fruit, grown as an alternative product, yields nearly 100 kilograms per tree.

The Trabzon persimmon, also known as the 'fruit of paradise,' is proving to be a lucrative option for producers in Mersin. Cultivated as an alternative to citrus fruits, Trabzon persimmon is bringing smiles with its high productivity and favorable pricing. Particularly grown in the upper regions of the city, the fruit can yield close to 100 kilograms per tree when well-maintained. The production of this fruit, currently being harvested, has been increasing each year.

Musa Yılmaz, the President of the Mersin Chamber of Agriculture, visited Trabzon persimmon orchards to gather information on the current situation. Yılmaz recommended Trabzon persimmon to farmers as an alternative product, emphasizing its high yield and good market price. He stated, "Farmers are making money from this fruit. That's why we suggest it as an alternative product. Our farmers have conducted and continue to conduct studies on this. Our orchards are increasing each passing period. Harvesting is done once a year, and it is very productive and high-yielding in terms of yield. A well-maintained tree produces more than 100 kilograms of fruit. The current price of this fruit ranges between 15 and 18 Turkish liras. So, if we get 100 kilograms of fruit from one tree, it brings in over 1,500 liras. Farmers are now turning to products that generate income.
