ESK Will Purchase Unsold Sacrificial Animals from Livestock Markets

The animals brought to the market by producers for sale as sacrificial animals, but not sold, will be purchased by the Meat and Milk Board (ESK) as carcass meat based on the Purchase Tariff for Sacrificial Animals, taking into account the producers' costs for care, feeding, and transportation. It was mentioned that payments to producers selling their animals to ESK will be made within 3 business days at the latest. To facilitate producers, the animals can be slaughtered at the nearest abattoir to their location. Producers wishing to sell their animals will need to apply at their nearest ESK Abattoir Directorate between June 20-28. Producers should provide their animals' identification details, transportation reports issued by Provincial and District Agriculture and Forestry Directorates for sacrificial sales, and documents confirming entry and rental of the sacrificial market site. Following necessary checks on the TÜRKVET system by the respective abattoir directorate, ESK will purchase the animals as carcass meat in accordance with the Animal Purchase Criteria and Implementation Principles Instructions.

Inspection of Sacrificial Slaughter and Livestock Sale Locations Underway

The Çanakkale Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry teams are conducting inspections at Sacrificial Slaughter and Livestock Sale Locations during Eid al-Adha. The Çanakkale Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, along with veterinarians from the provincial and district offices, are conducting inspections to ensure that the public can perform sacrificial slaughter operations reliably and healthily during the Eid al-Adha holiday. Livestock shipments continue in Ardahan

Livestock from Ardahan, one of the most important centers for animal husbandry, are being sent to many cities, primarily the major ones. After undergoing the necessary inspections, cattle are loaded onto trucks and transported to western provinces. Muhammet Fatih Cineviz, the Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, stated that the livestock shipments are ongoing. Cineviz mentioned that animals undergo health checks and their documents are reviewed at the Animal Health Branch Directorates before shipment. Producer Fahrettin Kılıç, who has been in the livestock business for about 41 years, said, "I have been dealing with livestock for 41 years. Our livestock, raised on Ardahan's natural pastures, are completely organic. We do not use silage or pulp for feeding. Best wishes to the buyers in advance."

Modern techniques in livestock farming will reduce calf losses

KUDAKA supported the project 'Reducing Calf Mortality with Modern Livestock Techniques. In the scope of the 2024 Technical Support Program, the support contract for the project "Reducing Calf Mortality with Modern Livestock Techniques," to be implemented by the Horasan District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, was signed. The signing ceremony took place at the North East Anatolia Development Agency (KUDAKA) headquarters, attended by KUDAKA Secretary General Oktay Güven, Horasan District Director of Agriculture and Forestry Sinan Ayhan, and responsible personnel from the institutions. According to the data from 2023, approximately 800 out of 20,000 calves (4%) are lost in the region every year. Among the main reasons for this are the preference for traditional methods by individuals involved in livestock farming and their lack of awareness of modern techniques. Within the scope of the project "Reducing Calf Mortality with Modern Livestock Techniques," training on modern livestock techniques will be provided to farmers and livestock breeders in 12 villages within the Horasan district. The aim is to reduce calf mortality, which is a significant problem in livestock farming. Additionally, it is expected that raising awareness about calf care and health through these trainings will contribute to preventing calf mortality and enhancing meat and milk production in the region.

Pine and acacia tree planting was carried out in Aydın

In the Çiftlik neighborhood of Efeler district in Aydın, as part of the pasture rehabilitation and management project, pine and acacia trees were planted to create shaded areas for grazing animals and prevent erosion. To enhance the well-being of animals grazing in the pasture, and promote erosion control to restore the balance between soil, water, and plants, tree planting was carried out in the Çiftlik neighborhood. Ibrahim Altıntaş, the Director of Agriculture and Forestry in Aydın, stated in his speech, 'The primary source for meeting the roughage needs of small and large livestock economically is meadows and pastures. Since 1998, the Ministry and our Directorate have been conducting efforts to rehabilitate and offer pasture, highland, and wintering areas to animal owners. Since 2001, our Directorate has implemented 7.5 million worth of pasture rehabilitation and management projects on a total of 17,100 hectares of pasture area in 24 neighborhoods to obtain higher quality and more affordable roughage. The rehabilitation project in Çiftlik neighborhood covering 621 hectares will be carried out between 2023-2025, with a total project cost of 263,200 TL.' Director Altıntaş also emphasized that soil and water are the fundamental elements of plant cultivation and that preserving these two resources is a fundamental goal in the pasture. He expressed hope that the planted saplings would be beneficial first to the farmers in Çiftlik neighborhood and later to the country's livestock. The tree planting program was attended by Deputy Governor Mehmet Yüce, Director of Agriculture and Forestry in Aydın Ibrahim Altıntaş, employees of the Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, and students from a private school.

75% Grant for milking kits to 717 Balıkesir producers

The Balıkesir Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry distributed the Milking Hygiene Kit, supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, to a total of 717 producers in 10 districts. Within the scope of the "Milking Hygiene and Quality Raw Milk Production Project" conducted by the Balıkesir Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, a Milking Hygiene Kit was distributed to a total of 717 producers in 10 districts, namely Altıeylül, Karesi, Bigadiç, Balya, İvrindi, Kepsut, Sındırgı, Savaştepe, Manyas, and Dursunbey. The winners will receive 5 merino and merino-cross sheep, 1 ram, and 6 months of feed, all insured by TARSİM.
