The downpour caused damage to agricultural fields in Osmaniye
The excessive rainfall and wind that occurred in the Düziçi district of Osmaniye in recent days caused damage to crops cultivated in agricultural fields.
Intermittent downpours have been affecting life in Osmaniye for the past 3 days. Following yesterday's rain and wind, wheat and barley crops in the Düziçi district suffered damage. Teams affiliated with the Chamber of Agriculture and the District Agriculture Directorate have started assessing the damage in the field. While having TARSIM insurance offers a glimmer of hope for some farmers, as insurance assessors will determine the extent of damage, those without insurance will have to wait for a response based on reports submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry by the teams from the District Agriculture Directorate.
Farmer Bilal Mülayim, noting Osmaniye's status as an earthquake-prone region, called for government support for those without TARSIM insurance, saying, 'For the past week, heavy rains and winds have damaged our wheat, barley, and grain crops, causing us distress. In some areas, most of our crops have been flattened. We were going to harvest in 15 days, but our crops were damaged. We called the authorities from the district agriculture directorate; they toured our fields and conducted inspections. They said they would assist non-TARSIM-insured farmers by preparing reports and files. Since our region, like other provinces, is in an earthquake zone, we expect our government to embrace and support farmers without TARSIM insurance.'
Farmer Mehmet İşlek, acknowledging the excellent yield of their crops this year, expressed dismay at the damage caused by the rain, saying, 'We were about to harvest, but our wheat was flattened and damaged due to the rain. Our losses are substantial; almost half of our wheat has been damaged. Our wheat was very good; the ears were large and productive, but they suffered damage.'
