The direct seeding period in the stubble fields in Hüyük is beginning
In Hüyük district, one of the key centers for cereal farming in Konya, the direct seeding period in stubble fields is starting.
As part of the 'Direct Seeding Techniques Training' project, funded by the Konya Plain Project (KOP) Regional Development Administration, a direct seeding machine was delivered to the Hüyük Chamber of Agriculture, which is a project partner. Hüyük Chamber of Agriculture President Ertuğrul Zedef thanked KOP Administration for their support and contributions to the project.
Zedef stated that with the use of this machine, local producers will now save about 80% on fuel and 50% on costs. He added, 'With the direct seeding machine, we will be able to perform cereal seeding in our region using the direct seeding method. This method, which is applied worldwide and has been spreading in our country in recent years, reduces labor and tillage costs, providing significant convenience for farmers. Traditional production methods involve intensive soil processing, which damages the physical and chemical structure of the soil and imposes heavy costs on farmers. In our district, for the production of main crops such as wheat and barley, soil preparation typically involves 3-5 tractor passes before planting, depending on the characteristics of the land. By using the direct seeding machine, planting is done in a single pass, resulting in 70-80% savings in fuel, and 50-60% savings in labor and time. Additionally, improvements in soil organic matter, structure, aeration, and water permeability, as well as increased yield, are expected.'
