He distributed unsold onions for free, attracting hundreds of people to the field

In the village of Otluk, located in the Kızıltepe district, farmer Mehmet Kaya planted onions on his 15-acre field. Unable to sell them to traders, he decided to distribute them for free to prevent them from rotting. Upon hearing that the onions were free, local residents flocked to the field, with many arriving from nearby villages in their cars.

Expressing frustration over his efforts going to waste, farmer Mehmet Kaya said, 'I couldn't sell onions that are typically sold for 50 liras in winter for even 5 liras in summer. Traders come and offer only 2-3 liras for my onions. If I were to harvest them, the cost per sack for my workers would be 5 liras. Since I couldn't sell them, I'm distributing them for free to my village and surrounding villages as an act of kindness. These onions are not selling in the field. Furthermore, there are farmers in nearby villages and our village planting more than 50 acres. Many farmers who have planted over 100 acres are now seeing their efforts go to waste.'
