The journey of drying Prophet's grapes has begun

The journey of Adıyaman’s registered product, Besni grapes (also known as Prophet's grapes), to achieve its 'golden yellow' state after being harvested and sun-dried has begun.

Harvest season has started for the Prophet's grapes, a product unique to certain villages in the Gölbaşı and Besni districts of Adıyaman. Efforts are underway to harvest and dry these grapes, which have seeds used in the cosmetics industry and offer numerous benefits to the human body.

To ensure the grapes last longer, they are mixed with potassium carbonate, and for quicker drying, they are combined with olive oil. The harvested grapes are left in the sun on display areas prepared in the middle of the vineyard for 4 to 7 days before being made ready for consumption, especially during the winter months. The dried grapes are consumed in the domestic market of Turkey.

Last year, in Adıyaman’s Gölbaşı district, 12,173 tons of grapes were produced over 25,900 decares, while in the Besni district, 2,175 tons were produced over 5,000 decares. Gölbaşı Agricultural Chamber President Cuma Ali Aras commented on the grape harvest, saying, "Prophet's grapes have a very different taste when eaten fresh, and they turn a golden yellow when dried. They are suitable for table use and as snacks. The grape seed oil is also used in cosmetics and health fields."
