Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı, who came to Denizli for a series of visits and inspections, visited Governor Ömer Coşkun. During his program, Minister Yumaklı inspected a dairy and dairy products facility operating in the Acıpayam district and evaluated the developments in the sector.
Minister Yumaklı stated that Turkey's milk production is 21.5 million tons, with 50% of it going to the industry. He said, "We want the industrial facilities to take a larger share of this milk, producing more milk and dairy products to meet domestic needs and achieve export targets. We have detected that some industrial facilities, especially in the last 2-3 weeks, have been engaging in activities aimed at reducing the producer's income or lowering prices by issuing retroactive invoices. We are closely monitoring this with our Ministry of Commerce. We have no negative views regarding industrial organizations that buy milk from producers at its value and ensure it reaches consumers under the best conditions. However, we have started a very intense inspection process against those who seek to exploit the situation for their own benefit. Both we and our Ministry of Commerce have identified some formations that are buying products from producers below their value in ways that are not in line with competitive conditions. Our Ministry of Commerce has started an investigation and examination on this issue."
"Taking measures to protect producers"
Minister Yumaklı pointed out that necessary precautions are being taken to protect milk producers, saying, "As a Ministry, due to the increase in temperatures and high production leading to a surplus of milk, we have taken a step since last week to address this through regulation to protect producers. We will withdraw approximately one thousand tons of milk from the market daily. If necessary, we will increase this amount. We will continue this regulation until the end of the year. This step is intended for regulation purposes. We are doing this to ensure that no product remains in the hands of producers. I want to remind organizations that wish to misuse this regulation for obtaining milk powder at a cheaper rate from producers to refrain from such actions."
