Fig harvest is ongoing in Mersin Mut: In the garden, it's 80 TL

In the Mut district of Mersin, with around 100 tons of figs harvested this season, the price of figs finding buyers at 80 TL per kilogram means that producers are experiencing a golden year.

Harvests continue in Mersin, which plays an important role in Turkey's fresh vegetable and fruit production. Particularly in the Mut district, figs are in high demand during this period. Due to continued demand, figs that were priced at 100 TL at the start of the harvest are now being sold for 80 TL, despite the peak season. The harvested figs are sent to various parts of Turkey through traders. This year, around 100 tons of figs are expected to be harvested by the end of the season.

Trader Mehmet Yıldız noted that the producers are pleased with this year's fig harvest, stating, "The initial harvest of figs started at 100 TL this year. Now we are buying them at 80 TL. Both the traders and the producers are satisfied with the price."

Producers also mentioned that they are getting more than their fair share for their efforts this year, noting that last year's prices ranged between 20 and 30 TL, while this year started at 100 TL and is now at 80 TL.

Producer Bilal Oğuz expressed satisfaction with the fig prices, saying, "Even though we are approaching the middle of the fig harvest, the price is still 80 TL, which pleases us farmers. We are getting excellent returns for our efforts. This year, we are making a lot of money from figs."

Mut Agricultural Chamber President Muharrem Yılmaz highlighted that the climatic conditions this year have been very suitable for figs, and there is no other region that can present figs to the market as early as Mut. He also mentioned that fig saplings have been planted on approximately 10,000 decares of land.

Yılmaz added that around 10,000 families in the district rely on fig income for their livelihoods and that they expect a yield of 100,000 tons this year.
